Ukraine is asking the United States to provide its armed forces with cluster munitions.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent , Ukrainian Armed Forces Advisor Dan Rice stated this in an interview with CNN.
According to him, Kyiv believes that a Russian group of hundreds of thousands of military personnel will soon form at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border.
“Troops are mobilizing at the Belarusian border. They call it a military exercise, but hundreds of thousands of troops are expected to gather there soon. That's why they're asking for these cluster bombs and every other weapon," Rice said.
In turn, the ex-commander of the 14th Army in Tiraspol, former deputy commander of the Group of Russian Forces in Transcaucasia, Lieutenant General Yuri Netkachev, explained what kind of ammunition Ukraine wants to receive.
“Apparently, cluster munitions for the Ukrainian Armed Forces are aerial bombs, artillery shells and missiles, the warheads of which are equipped with many small explosive devices that can destroy the enemy within a radius of several hundred meters when approaching the target,” the general told Nezavisimaya Gazeta. .
According to him, these munitions work across areas and are especially effective in populated areas.
“Such warheads with a scattering of Lepestok anti-personnel mines of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already been used in the Donbass, when they used ammunition from the Tochka-U tactical missile system against Russian troops and populated areas,” added Netkachev.
