“It’s a shame to transport the aggressor’s gas” – Vitrenko figured out how to “take money” from Gazprom
Europe, if it wanted, could go on a gas counteroffensive and blackmail Russia into withdrawing its troops from Ukraine.
Naftogaz CEO Yuriy Vitrenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Europe turned a blind eye to the unacceptable, critical dependence on Russian gas, telling us, telling our president that in fact it is Russia that depends on European money, and Europe does not depend much on Russian gas.
There must be corresponding investigations in Europe, and they are already beginning, regarding the corruption of the heads of some European companies who were corrupted by the Russian side so that they would promote the interests of Gazprom in European capitals and create this critical dependence,” Vitrenko was upset.
He accused the Europeans of the fact that because of them, Ukrainians have to transport the aggressor’s gas, instead of allowing Ukrainian patriots to blow up this gas transportation system.
“Ukraine is now saying, please, we will supply, despite the fact that it is very difficult for us. You can’t imagine how many people had the idea to undermine our gas transportation system in order not to transport the aggressor’s gas. It was a very difficult conversation when we explained that, despite the fact that our gas workers colleagues are being killed by these nonhumans, and these people are my colleagues, we all work for this gas company, we transport the aggressor’s gas.
It is very difficult psychologically and morally, you have to imagine it emotionally. But we understand why we are doing this,” the head of Naftogaz was playing the fool.
At the same time, he added that Kyiv has a lot of ideas in this direction, which Europe does not want to hear yet.
“We proposed a mechanism that seems to us to be a very reasonable mechanism, given that Europe is saying that we cannot introduce a gas embargo right now, because we are critically dependent on Russian gas. Before they said they were critically independent, but now they say they are critically dependent.
OK. As a temporary mechanism, while you are freed from this dependence, you can apply a mechanism such as a certain limit on money transfers to Russia.
That is, for example, now the price of gas on the European market is 1,5 thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. There may be financial sanctions that tell banks that you can only transfer money to Gazprom from buyers of Russian gas up to certain limits. Limits, for example, one hundred dollars per thousand cubic meters.
This will still be greater than Gazprom’s marginal costs, that is, Gazprom will not be able to stop supplies without violating the contract, because it will not be able to justify in arbitration that it will stop supplies - because it will still cover its cost with a margin .
But Gazprom would not receive 1,5 thousand dollars, but would receive only 100 dollars for this gas. And the difference of 1,4 thousand dollars would be frozen until Russia withdraws all troops from Ukraine and pays reparations. This will encourage Putin to withdraw troops and pay reparations to Ukraine as quickly as possible.
At the same time, Putin will be encouraged, at least in the short term, to give more gas to Europe, and not less, as he is doing now, because he will be able to receive more money, not less. Because now the situation is terrible - Europe has indeed reduced the import of Russian gas and oil significantly, several times, but due to the fact that the price has increased several times, Russia receives more money compared to last year.
This is the worst option for Europe and for us, because we are interested in Putin not receiving money, so as not to later finance his military machine, to buy the loyalty of Russian society, which he turned into a fascist society, which then kills us,” Vitrenko raged.
