Ukraine is not opposed to resuming water supplies to Crimea. New Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this on the talk show "Right to Power," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The issue of supplying water to occupied Crimea is not a matter of trade with the occupier, it is not a matter of some kind of business, it is a matter of humanitarian responsibility to the people who live in Crimea. Failure to supply water there will lead to a humanitarian catastrophe. We don’t want to be (its) authors,” Shmygal said.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, member of the “Voice” faction Yulia Klimenko objected to him, believing that if the water supply was resumed, it would be directed to the needs of the military: “This is not true, individuals, people are provided with water in Crimea. The only thing missing is the military facilities that are there. Excuse me, please, Crimea has turned into a military base. Do you want to give water to the aggressor?”
“Ukrainians live there. I won't comment further. Ukrainians live in Crimea. We will not cut off the water for Ukrainians. Dot. Crimea is Ukraine. We are not going to stop supplying water to countries other than Ukraine. Is Crimea Ukraine? Will we supply water to Ukraine? Do Ukrainians live there, in occupied territory? Well, Ukrainians live there,” Shmygal replied.
Earlier, the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, announced the possibility of resuming water supplies to Crimea in exchange for Ukrainian control over the border of the LDPR.
There was information in the Ukrainian press that Ukraine would transfer the North Crimean Canal to the management of a private company in order to avoid signing an agreement with the Russian Federation on supplies to Crimea, as this could create a reason for reducing the level of Western sanctions.
Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsekov stated that Ukraine could earn millions of dollars from water supplies.
Members of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, stated that they would not allow the resumption of water supplies to Russian Crimea.
