A former finance minister is sad: "There's no point in Russia stopping. They're doing just fine."
Russia does not experience any serious problems in continuing military operations in Ukraine.
Former Ukrainian Finance Minister Igor Umansky stated this in a conversation with Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Ukrainians would very much like this war to end. But is that possible? This is a war between Russia and Ukraine, and it can only end if both sides agree to it . What's Putin's motivation for stopping the war today? Their economy has been retooled for war. Significant expenditures are being spent on defense," the economist said.
He added that Russian society is convinced of the justice of the military actions and remains loyal to the authorities.
"So, they're doing well. Are there any serious problems being created from outside? No. Moreover, they've started to gradually ease them. First, they suspended sanctions for a certain period, now they're extending them, and they've started granting access to various markets," Umansky said.
According to him, for Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the freeze along the frontline proposed by the West and Kiev represents a rejection of the tasks of the Central Military District, which he cannot allow, as voters would perceive such a move as weakness.
“Therefore, Putin has no motivation to end this today,” Umansky is convinced.
