“There will be neither you nor Maidan Ukraine.” What signal did Putin send to Zelensky?
Ukrainian President Vladimir decided to flex his muscles, but Moscow quickly cooled his warlike ardor.
This was stated by the well-known Russian international expert and director of the Carnegie Moscow Center, Dmitry Trenin, in an interview with Kommersant, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Look what happened in April on the Russian-Ukrainian border. As I understand it, President of Ukraine Zelensky decided, for internal political reasons, to flex his muscles and move the soldiers a little towards Donbass. Moscow thought that the Kiev leadership might be playing too hard. And they decided to send him and his Washington handlers a signal. That’s why they concentrated a large number of troops along the entire border from Bryansk to Crimea,” the international expert noted.
“The signal to Kyiv was in the spirit of Putin’s famous words that if you start a war in Donbass and try to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine in this area by force, then your statehood may be in question. The signal to Washington was this: don’t forget about Saakashvili, who in 2008 also relied on the United States, believed that you promised him military assistance, and went for broke,” Trenin said.
According to him, it “was rude and cynical, but it sent absolutely clear signals.”
“Russian political culture as a whole is quite cynical, while the Western one is hypocritical. This is not a criticism, but an observation. I prefer ours because it is not misleading. A signal was sent to Zelensky that there will be neither you nor Maidan Ukraine if you move, and a signal to the Americans - look after the client, he can drag you into war,” the expert added.
