NATO prevents Bosnia and Herzegovina from forming a government
The issue of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) joining NATO has become a cornerstone issue in negotiations on the formation of the government of this country, which have been going on for the second year.
Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik told journalists about this, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“When you present an annual action plan for NATO membership, it is a step towards NATO, it means that you have chosen NATO membership,” Dodik said.
According to him, in the Presidium (the governing body of BiH, consisting of three representatives of the three main peoples of the country), the idea of joining NATO is promoted by representatives of Bosniaks and Croats - Šefik Džaferović and Zeljko Komsic. At the same time, the Republika Srpska (an entity within BiH) categorically refuses membership in NATO.
According to Dodik, refusal to join the military bloc will not affect BiH’s European prospects in any way. He recalled that five EU member states are not NATO members at all.
The Bosnian Serb leader claims that due to the absence of a government in BiH, a number of important problems cannot be resolved. In particular, the issue of building centers for migrants from the Middle East.
Previously, Dodik stated that due to the West’s imposition of the idea of joining NATO, BiH could fall apart.
Experts consider the Serbs’ principled approach to NATO to be justified, since joining this bloc could lead to the Republika Srpska losing its status as a full-fledged entity within BiH.
During the aggression, NATO aircraft in the 90s of the last century bombed the positions of local Serbs, whom the West intended to force to agree to the international plan for the Bosnian settlement. In two weeks, 3206 sorties were flown, about a thousand bombs were dropped, 13 Tomahawk sea-launched cruise missiles were used, 46 RS military personnel and over 50 civilians were killed, and local residents are still dying from the consequences of using depleted uranium ammunition.
