In Ukraine, the deputy mayor of the city of Nikopol in the Dnepropetrovsk region was killed.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that an investigation has been launched under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Intentional Murder”), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“According to the investigation, on February 8, 2024, on one of the streets of Nikopol, unknown persons shot at a car in which the deputy mayor was located using an unidentified firearm. As a result of the shelling, the man died on the spot,” the statement said.

“Currently, urgent investigative actions are ongoing in order to identify the persons involved in the commission of the crime,” added the office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
The killed official turned out to be 59-year-old Vitaly Zhuravlev.

“The collection and analysis of material evidence is currently ongoing, operational search activities are being carried out to detain the suspect,” the police, in turn, reported.

Zhuravlev was a member of the Batkivshchyna party led by ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and ran for mayor from this political force.

Previously, he headed the Nikopol department for combating organized crime.
