The Russian State Duma today passed in its first reading a bill that introduces liability for disseminating information about foreign agents without appropriate labeling, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
For this it is proposed to fine up to 50 to 300 thousand rubles.
The new norm outraged communist deputy Alexei Kurinny.
“People who have nothing to do with foreign agents, subversive services, or the State Department can fall under the same brush.
A man is sitting at a computer, and some interesting material from his point of view appears, on which it is not written that it is a foreign agent. The person reposted it to his friends - that’s it, this is dissemination of information about a foreign agent.
He didn’t mark it on his page, he falls under the penalty – from 2 to 2,5 thousand, plus they can confiscate the computer. Let's, after all, punish individuals who do not tag their content, and not everyone. This could affect millions. They won’t even understand why they were fined,” Kurinny said.
Presidential spokesman Harry Minh objected to him.
“You talk like children. Information will fly in millions of copies across the Internet. Let's not hide behind some myths and scares. We are talking about very specific structures and orientations of an anti-Russian nature,” Minkh said.
