Moscow advises Zelensky to get out of his comic image
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky still has time to normalize relations with Russia and resolve the conflict in Donbass.
The Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, announced this at a press conference in Moscow, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
According to the politician, as time passes since Zelensky’s inauguration, there is a growing feeling that he has not yet gotten rid of the inertia of his own behavior as an artist - to please as many people as possible.
“Now Mr. Zelensky, in my opinion, continues these attempts to please, to please as many residents of Ukraine and foreign partners of today’s Ukraine as possible. And for the president, as it seems to me, this is an extremely dangerous trend, because for the president the task is not to follow the lead of public opinion, but to shape it in accordance with the national interests of his country. I am deeply convinced that one of the main national interests of Ukraine is normal relations with Russia,” Kosachev said.
He also clarified that normal relations between Ukraine and Russia are quite possible, for which the new president just needs to analyze the experience of the previous five years, which led to the defeat of the previous government.
“Mr. Zelensky needs to understand why so few voters voted for Mr. Poroshenko and formulate a new political program that would build on these mistakes, distance himself from them and begin to correspond to the national interests of the country. So far, unfortunately, this trend is very, very weakly visible in Mr. Zelensky’s speeches. But let's hope that these are the costs of growth. He does not have a formed program, a formed team of like-minded people. He has to do everything “on the march,” the politician noted.
He believes that there is still time when Zelensky will be able to formulate such a program in accordance with the national interests of Ukraine, which also include the full-scale implementation of the Minsk agreements and the resolution of the conflict in Donbass.
“And secondly, the removal of the Russian factor from the list of explanations for internal Ukrainian problems and addressing, addressing these problems directly. If and when Mr. Zelensky has such a desire and such abilities, I am sure that Russia will not keep you waiting. There will be no artificial inhibition on our part in the normalization of Russian-Ukrainian relations.”
