Mongolia and Tajikistan put Ukraine on its back
Today, countries that Ukrainians are accustomed to looking down on have turned out to be more economically advanced than Ukraine.
This was stated by Ukrainian financier Roman Sulzhik, quoted by Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
“It would be good if the Soviet economy died, and if it were possible to replace the Soviet economy with a service economy. However, in order to sell services, capital needs to come in,” the expert said.
At the same time, he says that Ukraine will be a European, but poor country.
“I am very upset that Mongolia, Tajikistan, Paraguay are now more developed than Ukraine. We are used to looking down on these countries, but now Mongolia is a more advanced country than us,” admits Sulzhik.
In turn, Andrei Suzdaltsev, associate professor at the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics at the Higher School of Economics, says that Ukraine urgently needs an economic rescue plan.
“Ukraine has indeed recently been developing at a pace that Russia plans to achieve through the implementation of national projects no earlier than 2021 - annual GDP growth is 3%. But we must not forget that this is a recovery growth after a fall of more than 2014% in 2015-50,” Suzdaltsev noted in a comment to the publication.
He also recalled that today Ukraine remains the only country in the post-Soviet space that does not reach the level from which it started during the collapse of the USSR.
“Ukraine urgently needs a plan to save the economy, the structure of which has degraded, remains oligarchic and is moving by leaps and bounds towards the predominance of the agricultural sector. In addition, the country has become a leader in the export of labor resources; a third of the working population has left to work abroad. Ukraine needs investments, but so far nothing has been heard of them, and who will invest in a country that constantly insists that it is a victim of aggression,” the economist concluded.
