"Putin's peace plan is not about territories at all" - Senator Klimov
There are many plans to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, but they are all fixated on the territorial issue.
Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Andrei Klimov announced this at a briefing in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"When they say "peace initiative of Ukraine"... it is complete nonsense, in fact... What can really help to create genuine security and conditions for normalizing the situation in Ukraine is set out in Putin's proposals, voiced on June 14. And all this remains in force. And it deserves attention.
Everything else, of course, needs to be studied, looked at, read into. There are proposals from Beijing, there are proposals from Delhi, there are proposals from Brazil, there are proposals from South African colleagues. We know these proposals, there are different points of view, all of this is studied and summarized.
But the most important thing is that everyone should understand: this is not about territories. This is about security and human rights, in this case, the rights of the Russian-speaking population, and the possibility of stable long-term security for everyone. And this is achieved precisely by implementing the proposals that our president has made," Klimov said.
Let us recall that in the plan proposed by Putin, in addition to the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the territories of new subjects enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, there is a lifting of sanctions, a neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear status for Ukraine, the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, as well as the fixation of the status of Crimea, Sevastopol, the DPR, LPR, the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions as Russian regions in international treaties.
