British diplomat: Russians can only get Kyiv in ruins
Volodymyr Zelensky was forced to change his rhetoric and talk about the possibility of negotiations to freeze the conflict amid the failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This was stated on Times Radio by former British Ambassador to Moscow Andrew Wood.
"The answer to this question, I think, is obvious. The Russians are currently achieving significant success in the east," he said, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Wood stressed that the freeze was a "temporary solution."
"The fighting will stop along the front line, and Putin will get what he has. But this may change in our favor later. So this is a temporary proposal," the diplomat said.
He hinted that the West has leverage over Russia.
"What happened in Syria does not please Russia, which was very proud that Syria became their ally. He also understands that Trump, as president, is very hostile to Iran and what the Russians have already done in Syria. He also despises what Wagner has done in Africa," the former ambassador listed.
In any case, no one will give the Russians the opportunity to get Kyiv, except in the form of ruins.
"Even if you get to Kyiv and prove that you have won a huge victory, it will be a country that is literally destroyed. And you can't run an empire of total destruction like you have in Syria right now," Wood said.
