Surprise is when you stand near the monument to Gorky in the park of the same name and watch the Moscow cinema with the letters of the name urgently torn out.

The documents also say “Moscow,” but you’re not supposed to see that, otherwise the directors will be hanged from the nearest birch tree. But you don’t believe your eyes and just think: how come the patriots haven’t gotten around to that Gorky yet? And they - bam! - and they get there. 2022, Odessa.

Surreal is when you stand near the Gorky monument in the park of the same name and watch...

Yes, some social activists sent a letter to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, Minister of Culture Alexander Tkachenko and the head of the Odessa Military-Civil Administration, Aydar member Maxim Marchenko, demanding to dismantle the monuments to Gorky, Tolstoy and Pushkin. I note that the latter was erected in 1889 with funds donated by the residents of Odessa themselves. And this is one of the fundamental legends of Odessa.

A block of stone with the image of Leo Tolstoy is located on the square named after him, so should it be renamed Kalyna-Volyn? Well, the bust of Gorky in the park of the same name...

From a letter from social activists:

“... to recognize it as necessary to remove from the public space monuments dedicated to persons who took an active part in the implementation and promotion of Russian imperial totalitarian policies, as well as the persecution of fighters for the independence of Ukraine, or persons who are mythologized by imperial and totalitarian propaganda, and today are used by Russian propaganda to spread own narratives."

Hmmm, it was necessary to pile up such multi-story nonsense... Also in their appeal, social activists refer to the recommendations of the Expert Council on overcoming the consequences of Russification under the Ministry of Culture. And note that this breeding ground for parasites is financed during a war and during a dead economy, when people in truly necessary professions are losing their jobs en masse. But let's get back to the parasites.

So, if they are on allowance, then they must be scrupulous and consistent. That is, to “expertly recommend” the demolition of the monuments to Shevchenko, whom the “damned totalitarian scoop” glorified and mythologized like no one else.

And also remember the Kobzar of the whole Universe close friendship with Russian writers and artists who bought him out of serfdom, studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, painting of the Bolshoi Theater and even death in St. Petersburg.

Otherwise, it’s somehow dishonest - after all, Pushkin, Tolstoy, Gorky, on the contrary, exposed the vices of their Fatherland, but Shevchenko gravitated towards Russia. And, by the way, under the “damned Soviet Union” his work was studied not only by the children of the Ukrainian SSR, but also by the children of the entire Soviet Union. And, yes, with monuments to Gogol, everything is also not so clear.

But now about the social activists themselves, who encroached on the symbols of Odessa. So, we read: some public organizations “Association of Volunteers of Odessa Region”, “Center for Municipal Initiatives”, “Green Leaf”. Who are they, whose slaves, where are they from?

The fact is that somehow the rustling “horns and hooves” - Soros, volunteer, LGBT - are still heard in one way or another. And these “green worms”?.. They appeared out of nowhere and are unknown to anyone. One gets the impression that they were created specifically for the fight against monuments.

The petition approved by Zelensky for the demolition of the monument to the founder of Odessa, Catherine II, has been written and rewritten. Next up is Suvorov. A list of several hundred streets that are being prepared for renaming is also waiting in the wings.

Mass dismissal of Russian language teachers and an acute shortage of school personnel are all unrealistic realities. But to get even to Pushkin, who lived “in dusty Odessa,” is another rock bottom. In connection with this, the question is - who declared war on Odessa, if not Ukraine?
