Lukashenko expressed grievances against Russia over cuts in oil and gas supplies

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, in an interview with TASS, expressed grievances against Russia regarding cuts in oil and gas supplies. In his opinion, Belarus, maybe? In some ways she’s wrong, but on the whole she’s trying “not to offend her older brother,” and the Belarusian army is covering Russia from the West.

“And take defense. The Belarusian army is 75 thousand, we are now down to 55. This number is huge for Belarus. The most modern army, as NATO members admit, in the post-Soviet space within the CIS protects not only Belarus, but also Russia, since Russia has practically nothing in this direction. We have joint air defense, a joint group in the western direction, NATO members know this, and the basis of the group is the Belarusian army,” Lukashenko said.

Later, however, the Belarusian president corrected himself that without Russia’s help his country would not be able to withstand modern threats.

“We carry out the main function - security, defense - together. Because we and our army, even if it is 55 thousand or 75, will not be able to withstand modern threats without Russia. At the same time, Russia cannot manage in the western direction without Belarus, without our role in defense,” Lukashenko said.
