If the countries of the Western bloc really wanted peace in Ukraine, they would have forced Kyiv to negotiate long ago.

"The legendary Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko repeatedly remarked, ' Better ten years of negotiations than one day of war .' Following this precept, we negotiated for many years, achieved agreements, and approved the Russia-NATO Founding Act... And, beginning in 2015, we insisted on the unconditional implementation of the Minsk agreements, which resulted from those negotiations.

And all in full compliance with the UN Charter, which requires “To provide conditions for fairness and respect for obligations arising from negotiations and other sources of international law.”

Western colleagues trampled on this principle when they signed these documents, knowing in advance that they would not comply with them,” Lavrov said.

He emphasized that even now Moscow is open to negotiations on the Ukrainian issue, but they are legally prohibited by the Kyiv regime.

“Speaking of negotiations, we still do not refuse them. President Putin spoke about this recently.

And I would like to remind you that President Zelensky signed a decree prohibiting negotiations with Putin’s government. If the United States is so interested in them, I think it will not be difficult to give the command that this decree be canceled,” the minister added.

Lavrov added that the West could force Kyiv to peace, but instead it only incites hatred.

“But today in the rhetoric of our opponents we hear only slogans: “invasion”, “aggression”, “annexation”. Not a word about the underlying causes of the problem, about how for many years they nurtured an openly Nazi, rewriting the results of the Second World War and the history of their own people.

The West avoids a substantive conversation based on facts and with respect for the UN Charter. Apparently, he has no arguments for an honest dialogue. One gets the persistent impression that Western representatives are afraid of professional discussions that expose their demagoguery,” he concluded.
