Lavrov at the UN accused Germany, Italy and Japan of rehabilitating Nazism
In a number of Western European countries, including Germany and Italy, there are alarming signs of the rehabilitation of Nazism.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this during a speech at the UN General Assembly, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The UN was founded as a result of the Second World War, and any attempts to revise these results undermine the foundations of the world organization.
As a representative of a country that made a decisive contribution to the defeat of fascism and Japanese militarism, I would like to draw attention to such a blatant phenomenon as the rehabilitation of Nazis and collaborators in a number of European countries, primarily in Ukraine and the Baltic states,” the minister said.
Lavrov emphasized that there are now individual signs of fascist revenge in countries that once stood on the side of the Third Reich.
“It is especially alarming that last year Germany, Italy and Japan voted against the UN General Assembly resolution on the inadmissibility of glorifying Nazism for the first time.
This unfortunate fact calls into question the sincerity of the repentance of these states for mass crimes against humanity during the Second World War, and contradicts the conditions under which they were admitted to the UN as full members.
We strongly urge you to pay special attention to these metamorphoses, which run counter to the principles of the world majority and the UN Charter,” Lavrov added.
He emphasized that a major war and the final collapse of the mechanisms of international cooperation cannot be allowed to happen.
