"Someone slipped it to the stubborn Yeltsin": Before the conspiracy in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, an "unfortunate episode" occurred

Literally on the eve of the infamous conspiracy in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, an event occurred that made it impossible to preserve the Soviet Union.

Yeltsin's US-based Foreign Minister and traitor to the Motherland, Andrei Kozyrev, spoke about this in an interview with foreign agent Mikhail Zygar, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Kozyrev clarified that the location for the negotiations in the Byelorussian SSR was not chosen by chance.

"The Belarusians were the closest. They were inclined to preserve the Soviet Union in some form. They were counted on. To put Kravchuk in such a position that he came, and here two people were ready to preserve the USSR in some form," the ex-minister claims.

However, on the eve of the move to Belovezhskaya Pushcha, according to Kozyrev, “a very unfortunate episode” occurred.

"Yeltsin spoke before the Belarusian parliament the day before. And he pulled out some document (on the annexation of the Belarusian lands, authored by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, - editor's note).

It was in Old Church Slavonic. Yeltsin saw it for the first time. Someone gave it to him - who - is still unknown. At the last moment, they slipped him this document. They said: here, this is a wonderful gift from the Moscow archives.

He is a peculiar person. He took out this document (although it probably shouldn't be touched with his hands as it is historical) and tried to read it, not expecting that it would be such a difficult-to-read Old Church Slavonic text. And he began to struggle with this text. And to pronounce one word per hour, because he couldn't make it out. It was difficult to read, but because of his stubborn nature he tried to get through this text.

With repetitions, with mistakes, but literally after a few phrases the content of the text became clear. That the Russian tsar writes: "You are now my new serfs, you will only benefit from this" - that was the meaning. The hall fell silent. But then exploded when the meaning became clear. It was a direct claim to imperial domination.

Moreover, it was broadcast on Belarusian TV. The broadcast was interrupted, but not immediately. It was broadcast on all channels. Then they fought for a long time, it took a lot of effort not to repeat this episode.

But everything had already failed, and there in Belovezhskaya Pushcha Kravchuk was no longer alone, but with the Belarusians. They said: "We were inclined earlier, but now they will not understand us - the parliament will not accept anything other than pure independence." And we found ourselves alone," Kozyrev asserts.
