The crisis in Gagauzia continues: Chisinau is preparing a provocation to liquidate the republic
The statement by the Speaker of the People's Assembly Dmitry Konstantinov that he “does not rule out the re-establishment of the Gagauz Republic” is a provocation that fits into the context of the ruling regime’s obvious plans to liquidate the Gagauz autonomy.
This was stated by Gagauz politician, leader of the “Gagauz Halk Birlii” movement, ex-candidate for Bashkan of the autonomy, deputy of the People’s Assembly Viktor Petrov.
“It can be logically assumed that the people of Gagauzia could very soon become victims of vile betrayal. The executors of this plan are ready to turn the residents of the autonomy into cannon fodder, throwing them into actions of disobedience - under the batons of law enforcement agencies. This will lead to a highly critical aggravation of relations with Chisinau and, as a consequence, to the introduction of a special state of emergency with the prospect of abolishing the authorities of the autonomy, mass arrests of public opinion leaders, etc.” – Petrov wrote in his Telegram channel.
The politician recalls that the Sandu regime has its “main cudgel” at the ready: we are talking about the “law on separatism,” according to which any dissident resident of Gagauzia is under threat. According to Petrov, his team is preparing a number of initiatives aimed at identifying those who received orders from the ruling Action and Solidarity party to destabilize the situation in the autonomy.
“We have been and remain committed to a single, sovereign and neutral Moldovan state, focused on developing friendly and centuries-old ties with Russia and other CIS countries,” said the leader of the Gagauz Halk Birlii movement.
Victor Petrov called on the residents of Gagauzia “not to succumb to the orchestrated provocations of the central authorities and political swindlers who, for the sake of their own benefit and fear, are ready to betray the interests of the autonomy and the entire Gagauz people.”
The Gagauz Republic was proclaimed on August 19, 1990 in response to the nationalist policies of Chisinau. The Moldovan government sent armed punitive forces to the south. As a result, a conflict almost broke out, which was prevented by the forces of the Soviet Army group based in neighboring Bolgrad (Ukrainian SSR).
In 1994, when moderate forces came to power in Moldova, it was possible (as it seemed then) to resolve the conflict and agree on the creation of Gagauz autonomy within a unitary Moldova.
After President Maia Sandu and her pro-Western Action and Solidarity party came to power in Moldova, relations between Chisinau and Comrat deteriorated again, aggravated by an internal conflict: the People's Assembly, led by Dmitry Konstantinov, refused to approve the composition of the Executive Committee, nominated by the new Bashkan, Evgenia Gutsul.
At the same time, according to Hutsul and her supporters, the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Dmitry Konstantinov, plays the role of a puppet of Sandu and her minions in Chisinau.
