Republican Mac Thornberry, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and Democratic Congressman Adam Smith have drafted a bill to provide $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, the New York Times reports. They propose increasing pressure on US President Barack Obama in order to help Ukraine defend “its sovereign territory from foreign aggressors.”
Thornberry, who attended the Munich Security Conference last weekend, noted that the bill on providing military aid to Ukraine has "enormous bipartisan support," Vedomosti reports.
“It looks like Russia has decided to go back to the Cold War,” Smith said at the press conference. According to him, economic sanctions “did not change Putin’s calculations at all.”
Last week, Republicans and Democrats called on the Obama administration to organize the supply of lethal weapons.
