Next week, Vladimir Putin will visit Sevastopol, but before that time, the federal authorities need to smooth out the conflict between Governor Sergei Menyailo and the speaker of the city’s legislative assembly, Alexei Chaly, that almost resulted in a mass rally, RBC reports.

“RBC’s source in the federal United Russia states that the most serious reason for the escalation of the conflict was the law banning the development of coastal territory: the governor vetoed it, considering that coordination with the relevant federal department, the Ministry of Economic Development, was necessary,” the publication writes. – RBC’s interlocutor at the Ministry of Economic Development confirmed that the ministry sent a proposal to the Sevastopol Legislative Assembly to further consider the law and prepare agreed proposals for its revision.
The Kremlin is constantly monitoring the situation in Crimea, but the need to intervene arose precisely because of the threat of a rally, RBC sources close to the presidential administration say.
“There is a conflict between Chaly and Menyailo - it will continue for a long time. But we cannot allow it to be taken to the streets and involve people. Because Ukraine will immediately take advantage of the situation, on the one hand, and Navalny, on the other. They will try to interfere, and this is unacceptable,” explains the source, according to whom the Kremlin’s position is that Chaly and his entourage are shaking up the situation, but at the same time presenting often justified claims to the executive power, to which it “reacts very sluggishly.”
Now the teams of Chaly and Menyailo will have to “sit down at the negotiating table” and draw up a “road map,” the publication reports the words of Federation Council deputy from Sevastopol Olga Timofeeva and Deputy Governor of Menyailo Alexander Svechnikov.
“Within a month, the presidential administration will keep the situation under close control,” RBC summarizes, citing its sources in the Kremlin. “But if it turns out that Sevastopol politicians cannot come to an agreement, then they will have to send a conditional landing force there, “primarily from representatives of the Kremlin.”
