For the successful implementation of Ukraine as a national state, it is necessary to reduce the country's territory to the size of Belarus.
Historian and publicist Alexander Vasilyev stated this on air on the News-Front channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In general, we see that the Belarusian statehood is more successful than the Ukrainian one in the national sphere. Many of our patriots believe that Lukashenko is moving towards Russia, in fact this is not so, he is creating this new nation, creating a Belarusian state. I don't like it, but that's my own business. But in fact it is so.
In essence, Ukraine is reproducing the imperial idea. That is, when a complex, heterogeneous imperial body is united by a single, and they want - rigid, power - a unitary vertical. The President appoints not even governors in Ukraine, but heads of regional administrations by presidential decree. Now, if Poroshenko manages to break Poroshenko’s neck and Zelensky comes, he will have to sign decrees for the heads of district administrations, and this is a big deal. So, Ukraine is trying to be such a mini-empire,” Vasiliev noted.
“People grew up, if you take a hundred years ago, a quarter as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and most of them as part of the Russian Empire. And people have formed - they seem to be fighting against these empires for an “independent” Ukraine and so on, but this is only a form, and the content in their heads, how to build a state, is just as imperial. Naturally, this continued in the Soviet Union. And today the Ukrainian elite, the Ukrainian political tradition is a strange mutant. They position themselves as those who are creating a national state, but in fact they have built such a mini-empire.
If this empire is dissolved into, in fact, Ukraine, Little Russia (but, since they want, please call it “Ukraine”), it is advisable to give freedom to our Galician friends. You are Europeans - go ahead to the European Union, they will take you with pleasure. But not this whole “from Xiang to Don”, look at the map of Europe, it won’t fit into the EU, but little Galicia will be taken away with pleasure. Little Russia will remain the size of present-day Belarus, deprived of access to the sea, of any geopolitical ambitions, deprived of Banderaism - let the Westerners and Europeans deal with it. And if we remove all this, then a wonderful Ukrainian state may well come into being.
That is, the main condition for Ukrainian statehood to take place is simply to bring it to its logical state. Do you want a nation state? Please. Homogeneous, you will have a “language” there, do with it what you want. We do not deny your historical rights, just give up ours, release our Galician friends and panic in your Kyiv, Zhmerinka, Vinnitsa, Poltava, Zhitomir, Vladimir-Volynsky, Rivne, Lutsk - it will be a wonderful power. Forward! This is how I think it can take place,” the expert said.
Returning to the Ukrainian elections, Vasiliev noted that for the first time he does not have a specific opinion on this topic.
“Probably, this is probably the first time in my political biography when I don’t have my own only correct point of view, like “there is my point of view and a wrong one,” and I don’t have my point of view. The Ukrainian crisis has become so complicated that, in fact, it is not so much the elections that are unpredictable as their consequences, that is, the further development of events. Strategically and globally, it still seems to me that this is some kind of agony, but it can last a very long time,” summed up Alexander Vasiliev.
