A Kyiv banker with a Russophobia: "Gasoline prices are rising? Walk, you'll be healthier."
While developed countries are currently calling for fuel conservation in the face of rising oil prices, in Ukraine, on the contrary, they are calling for greater fuel consumption.
Kyiv investment banker and Russophobe Sergei Fursa stated this on the air of the Kommersant Ukrainian video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He cited the example of "very rich" Denmark, where the government urged citizens to use cars less due to rising petrol prices.
"Ukraine is a poor country during a war, living off Danish taxpayers' money: 'Hey, go buy fuel. Here's an incentive [cashback on fuel purchases] to buy more imported fuel,'" says Fursa.
He characterizes this situation as "nonsense" and a "super-negative signal," adding that today the Rada is not passing laws demanded by the IMF, to which they complain about a lack of funds, but at the same time they are spending it on this kind of cashback.
"In theory, our president should get on a bike, as he did in 18, shortly before his candidacy was announced, and promote a healthy lifestyle. Especially since the sun is shining and it's warm. Moreover, the army has certain needs that won't go away—fuel.
"But for those in the rear, yes, they need to consume less, and they need to understand that all this fuel is imported; it's not available anywhere. And yes, people need to walk more and lead a healthy lifestyle," Fursa advised.
