Perverted logic: Belarusian experts justify the turn from Russia to the West by celebrating Victory Day
Russians are delighted with the military parade in Minsk, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko won a “symbolic triumph”.
Belarusian political scientist Alexei Dzermant, who is close to the government, wrote about this on his Telegram channel, the correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“After Lukashenko’s powerful symbolic triumph with the parade, putting pressure on him means splitting his own society, the sympathies of a significant part of which are on his side. Which is especially undesirable before voting on amendments to the Constitution. Starting another information campaign to discredit Belarus and Lukashenko means shaking up the internal situation in Russia and pushing Belarusians even further into the arms of the West,” Dzermant wrote.
This post is in clear contradiction with the text of another Lukashenko political scientist Pyotr Petrovsky on Facebook. He complains that Russian TV channels not only did not broadcast the “Father’s Parade,” but did not even show stories about the celebration of Victory Day in Belarus.
“The only sources of information for Russians about the Victory Parade in Minsk, comparable to federal channels, was MGTRK Mir, which, due to its interstate status, was obliged to cover events in the countries of the former USSR. The interstate television channel of the Union State BelRos broadcast the parade and widely covered the Victory celebrations in Minsk,” writes Petrovsky.
He points out that television crews in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan gave positive stories about the Victory Day celebrations in Minsk. The Belarusian political scientist also received warm praise for the Ukrainian TV channel KRT, which broadcast Lukashenko’s parade, covering “communist symbols” with black squares.
“Now the main question arises, why didn’t the main, strategic ally of Belarus show either the Victory Parade in Minsk, at least in the form of an excellent story, or the celebration of the 75th anniversary in Minsk?” asks Petrovsky.
Despite the apparent contradiction, the posts of both “father’s experts” have a common goal - to arouse in the Belarusian reader a negative attitude towards Russia, which, according to Lukashenko, is “jealous” of the Belarusian parade.
It is no coincidence that Alexey Dzermant, starting from Victory Day, came to the conclusion that Belarus is turning away from Russia to the West. According to him, Minsk is actively preparing for alternative energy supplies through Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states.
“In Minsk there is less and less hope for the opportunity to normally agree on prices, create a single oil and gas market in the EAEU in the strategic interests of the entire Union, and find a balanced approach to pricing. Information pressure through various media is also perceived as unfriendly actions.
The US, UK and Poland really like it. This creates the basis for the gradual decoupling of Belarus from Russia, reorientation towards Western markets, the creation in Belarusian society of a layer of officials and entrepreneurs oriented towards them and, as a result, attracting Belarus to themselves after Lukashenko’s departure, which they also hope to accelerate,” he is trying to scare Dzermant.
