“To be honest, the report of the UN Human Rights Office looks more than strange. The lion's share of the report, let's say, is devoted to the “problem” associated with the allegedly “forced” imposition of Russian citizenship. Moreover, the report itself emphasizes that it was possible to retain Ukrainian citizenship, but then the employee of the government agency would lose his job. And this is called “coercion”!
Forgive me, but then, on the same basis, Ukrainian citizenship was imposed on us in 1991! Or were people who refused it left in government positions in independent Ukraine? And why then did no one at the UN call this a “violation of human rights”? Where were these human rights activists?
Among the episodes blamed on Russia, there is information about “intimidation of lawyers” (and, as I understand it, this is all based on unfounded statements by the lawyers themselves). Excuse me, but where is the UN reaction to the murder of lawyer Grabovsky in Ukraine? Why doesn’t the human rights department point-blank notice just wild cases, against the background of which some real or imaginary violations in Crimea seem like just a prank?
Human rights activists point out that the investigation into the abduction and death of Reshat Ametov is proceeding slowly and haltingly. But it is underway! And where is at least one report that nothing happens at all in the cases of Buzina’s murder or the burning of people in Odessa? And in the Odessa case, the executioners are also putting pressure on the judges in order to punish the victims! Isn't this double standards?
I really hope that this report will be followed by a balanced and methodical reaction from Russia. Such things need to be exposed and disavowed, demanding responsibility for the authors of such propaganda and superficial reports,” Kornilov told PolitNavigator.
