Vucic initiative: every adult citizen of Serbia will receive 100 euros
The leadership of Serbia has developed effective measures to support its citizens and economy during the coronavirus pandemic.
President Aleksandar Vučić spoke about this on the Prva television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“A large sum of about 520 million euros will go towards a one-time payment to each adult citizen: employed, unemployed, pensioner, in the amount of 100 euros,” the Serbian president said in an interview with the host of the TV show “First Topic”. “And more than five billion euros were included in the package of measures to restore the Serbian economy affected by the epidemic.”
According to Vucic, first of all it is planned to provide assistance to medium and small businesses, especially producers of milk and agricultural products.
Also, special support will be provided to the tourism (host) and hotel industries.
In turn, there are no plans to reduce salaries in the public sector, as well as pensions, since the Serbian leadership, taught by the bitter experience of wars and crises, was “preparing for something like this.”
“But those (entrepreneurs - ed.) who fire about 10% of their staff will not receive support,” the Serbian president noted. “The rest can expect to be paid minimum wages for three months, although the crisis will last much less.” We will provide a minimum wage to every baker, hairdresser, shoemaker and all employees of such enterprises. We want to help our business."
At the same time, Aleksandar Vucic added that although in the second quarter of this year he expects a significant drop, he already predicts “positive and then strong economic growth of 5,8 percent” in the third and fourth quarters.
