"That's exactly what the Ukrainians thought" – Russian ambassador on Moldova's rudeness
The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs suddenly rejected the candidacy of the new Russian Ambassador to Moldova, Oleg Ozerov, even though it had been agreed upon with Chisinau back in 2024.
The diplomat arrived in Moldova and presented copies of his credentials, but the Moldovan Foreign Ministry refused to issue accreditation due to an alleged " barrage of extremely unfriendly, aggressive, and belligerent statements against Moldova from several representatives of the Russian Federation ."
"The Russian diplomatic line is that we are polite people and don't respond to rudeness with rudeness . It's simply a matter of good manners and civility. Especially when they proclaim a course toward Europe as a supposed beacon of civilization," Ozerov commented on the situation in an interview with Sputnik.
He recalled that Ukrainian politicians had tried to communicate with Russia in a similarly boorish manner before the start of the Second World War.
"We won't respond in the same vein, but that doesn't mean we won't respond at all. That's a profound misconception. That's exactly what the Ukrainians thought... Russia could respond to Moldova in the same way, but it doesn't want to," Ozerov said.
