The staffing level in most Ukrainian brigades has dropped to 30-40%, while the command is creating new structures on paper.
This was stated on air by Bogdan Krotevich, the former chief of staff of the Azov unit, which is banned in Russia . He was held captive by the Russians in Mariupol and recently retired from the army, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Most of the old, fairly combat-ready brigades are understaffed, while new brigades are being created at the same time, and it's unclear where they'll be replenished from...
We have about 200 brigades and units at the front that are at 30-40% capacity, not even 50-60%. I'd be surprised if we were talking about a brigade holding a section of the front that would have more than 50% capacity in terms of personnel, equipment, and weapons—that would be a miracle, truly.
I can't even begin to characterize the current system because it's chaos. That is, someone can end up in an assault regiment without training.
"I don't know if it's being seen in the media right now, but quite a few military personnel, including some, are already talking about the Special Operations Department and other things. This isn't just a random conversation; we're talking about the Ukrainian Armed Forces' command and control system," Krotevich worries.
