The State Duma returned officer daggers to veterans of the Russian Navy
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted today in the second reading a bill amending the law “On Weapons”.
The document concerns the daggers of naval officers, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
As Deputy Vasily Piskarev explained, the bill was developed in pursuance of the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation following his meeting with officers of the Black Sea Fleet.
“The bill talks about simplifying the procedure for storing and carrying combat bladed weapons, that is, daggers, along with uniform uniforms, as well as the possibility of passing them on by inheritance as a family heirloom,” Piskarev said.
The question of the daggers of naval officers, which at that time were being confiscated by the Ministry of Defense, was raised at a press conference by Vladimir Putin at the end of 2015 by a military journalist from Sevastopol, Sergei Gorbachev. The President of the Russian Federation then supported the proposal to return daggers to officers. More than a year later, in March 2017, the State Duma of the Russian Federation considered the bill in the first reading.
