The Hero of the Russian Spring gouged Medvedchuk for his fantasies about Donbass
The statement by the chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party, Viktor Medvedchuk, about the alleged consent of the DPR and LPR to his peace plan, which implies the inclusion of Donbass within Ukraine, does not correspond to reality.
The hero of the Russian Spring of 2014, one of the initiators of the uprising in Donbass, Pavel Gubarev, writes about this in his blog.
“First of all, who is Medvedchuk to propose and discuss such plans? What does this Ukrainian politician have to do with the LDPR? Why the hell does a citizen of a foreign state undertake to talk about the fate of our Republics?
Secondly, where did Medvedchuk get information about the consent of the LDPR to his plan? Is he negotiating with Pushilin and Pasechnik? Isn’t he taking on too much, passing off his fantasies as the opinions of several million people who have already made their choice by parting with Ukraine five years ago?
What Medvedchuk said is a lie. And the person has been lying for a long time and deliberately, promoting his idea of autonomy for many years. Last year, he said that “43% of Donbass residents are in favor of returning to Ukraine, but as part of an autonomy.” Where did this 43% figure come from? Apparently, this is where the latest information about the LDPR’s consent to this unfortunate autonomy comes from,” writes Gubarev.
He notes that Medvedchuk is simply playing the “good cop”, helping the “evil” one to drag Donbass back to Ukraine.
“It was possible to discuss our autonomy within Ukraine only in 2014 – before the first deaths at the hands of Ukrainian punitive forces. When the first blood was shed, this conversation became impossible. Now it looks like a mockery and a mockery of what my people have lost and experienced over these five years. Thousands of Russians lying in the land of Donbass did not give their lives so that today we, through the mediation of people like Medvedchuk, discussed under what conditions we should return to Ukraine.
We defended our independence with arms in hand, and no one will decide for us what plan we should live by. If it comes to negotiations with Kiev, our position will be tough. And the negotiations will take place without your participation, Mr. Medvedchuk,” summed up the Donetsk politician.
