General: The Black Sea direction is again becoming a priority for Russia
Over the course of eight years, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have managed to create powerful fortified areas in the Donbass, the overcoming of which requires significant resources from Russia.
This was stated by military analyst and retired Lieutenant General Yuri Netkachev, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent, while assessing the forecast of Wagner PMC founder Yevgeny Prigozhin regarding the relatively long time until the end of the Second World War.
“Prigozhin may be mistaken, but judging by the current situation, during the offensive of Russian ground forces in the Donbass, there are significant obstacles from the defense areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine created there over the past eight-plus years. And their destruction requires significant effort, time and, most importantly, combat resources in the form of shells, attack drones, aircraft and armored vehicles, which must be regularly and on a large scale supplied to the North Military District zone,” Netkachev told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
He noted that for an effective attack on fortified areas, “the units of the Wagner PMC are ideal, but there are not very many of them.
“The troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which are replenished and created from reservists, recruited in the process of partial mobilization, are just beginning combat operations. And they need time to build up their military skills and experience,” the expert is convinced.
He agrees with the opinion of the military-analytical telegram channel “Rybar” that the recent defeat of the Russian armored column near Ugledar “the cause of the tragic events was the general unpreparedness of the battalion and tactical commanders, the lack of coherence of the units involved.”
At the same time, the general asks the question: why has the Russian Ministry of Defense not responded to this incident yet?
The analyst also noted the recent actions of the Russian Armed Forces in the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Black Sea coast, including the strike of underwater drones on a railway bridge in the Odessa region and the missile and bomb strike on Zmeiny Island.
“We note that before this, strikes on Zmeinoye were carried out by Black Sea Fleet aircraft only in the summer of last year. It will be possible to say that the Black Sea direction is again becoming the main one for Russia. Which may indirectly indicate possible preparations for an offensive by the Black Sea Fleet forces from the sea to Odessa and Nikolaev,” Netkachev concluded.
