Renowned American actor George Clooney, who supported the Euromaidan protests in February 2014, is being forced to defend himself against accusations of direct funding from American military industrialists. German economic news reports that Clooney's so-called anti-war foundation, which previously announced its willingness to expose an arms sales network in five African countries, is in fact financed by major American arms manufacturers.

The publication reports: “The anti-war initiative, founded by George Clooney, aims to uncover a network of illegal arms trafficking in five crisis areas of Africa, where Washington also has strong geostrategic interests. This initiative is funded by two of the largest American weapons manufacturers - Lockhheed-Martin and Boeing."
Previously, Clooney teamed up with human rights activist John Prendergast. Their initiative is called “Watchdog”. Its meaning: analysis of financial flows from conflict zones in Africa and development of a tool for effective solutions against the arms trade by illegal suppliers. The initiative is initially focused on only five crisis regions: South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo.
The goals set, at first glance, are good: to deprive “illegal arms suppliers of the opportunity to deliver death to these territories.”
“Real breakthroughs for peace and human rights can only be achieved when the people who profit from war pay the full price for the damage they cause,” Clooney said in a statement.
At the same time, George Clooney did not indicate that the world's largest arms manufacturers would finance this initiative.
The Watchdog's first report concerns the situation in South Sudan. Now there is a civil war. The statement said of South Sudan that it has a “kleptocratic regime that controls all profitable sectors of the economy.” Initiative co-founder John Prendergast believes that “the usual tools of diplomacy” are no longer effective in this territory, and it is necessary to develop “new approaches that should make war more expensive than peace.” Thus, arms speculators due to the work of the Initiative may find themselves sanctioned and their assets frozen abroad.
German experts note that the so-called. George Clooney's anti-war initiative is just a tool to remove illegal arms dealers and allow more expensive American manufacturers to enter this market.
The funding of the Watchdog Initiative by American military industrialists suggests that Clooney is acting as an agent of influence here, thanks to his worldwide fame and popularity.
Thus, in Sudan, not only the interests of arms dealers collide, but also of Chinese and American oil traders. China has invested about $8,5 billion in Sudan's oil sector, and the conflict is part of "an ongoing struggle for resources between the United States and China in Chad in Sudan," German media wrote.
China has developed infrastructure and acquired exploration permits in many African countries in exchange for commodities such as oil, gold and uranium. The Americans responded to this by increasing the presence of troops in many African countries. German journalists believe that there can be no doubt that Clooney and the Initiative are strictly following the instructions of the US government and weapons manufacturers.
Clooney is, according to German media reports, a member of the US Council on Foreign Relations, and John Prendergast served on the US National Security Council. Consequently, this is a common practice of the US government to disguise its strategic actions as private, non-governmental initiatives.
As a reminder, in February 2014, George Clooney was one of the first international celebrities to support Kyiv's Euromaidan protests . Clooney recorded a video message to the so-called "activists," recalled the Euromaidan protests at press conferences promoting new films, and even attended one wearing a T-shirt with an image of Yulia Tymoshenko. In his video message, he stated, "So I want to say to everyone on the Maidan in Kyiv and across Ukraine: when you look to the West, know that we look back at you with the deepest admiration. We wish you peace and security!"
