If Putin wins in Ukraine, he will restore the USSR! - hearings in the US Congress
If Russia wins in Ukraine, it will regain control over other countries of the former USSR.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced this at a hearing of the US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This is how Austin responded to suggestions made by Congressman Hal Rogers.
"Putin has stated very openly and repeatedly that he wants to restore the old Soviet Union, and all the countries of Eastern Europe are looking to us. If we fail them, I think it will further strengthen Putin's belief that he will succeed in restoring the old Soviet Union . Do you agree with that?" Rogers asked the Defense Secretary.
" I absolutely agree . I think Putin believes he can outlast us. He believes Western resolve will soon wane and our coalition will fall apart... I believe Putin won't stop with Ukraine. I think he'll continue to push for the retreat of some of the countries that were part of the former Soviet Union. And I think we can expect significant upheaval in the region in the future if he's successful," Austin readily agreed.
