A whole clan of businessmen has formed in Armenia who make money from smuggled products supplied from Nagorno-Karabakh.
Military expert Alexander Zapolskis stated this on the PolitWera internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Zapolskis, the taxation of Karabakh allows products to be produced there and legalized in Armenia, selling them to third countries.
“The status of this Artsakh is very interesting. On the one hand, it is independent and, as an independent territory, it has its own taxes, its own legal and legislative framework. It is not part of Armenia and therefore the laws of Armenia, tax rates, do not apply there.
About 14 billion dollars of money are collected there per year, the total GDP, and it arises like this: guys from Armenia and the foreign diaspora can literally start a business there for pennies, because everything is cheap there, they produce furniture, some domestic goods, a lot of smuggling , which is legalized much like Belarusian shrimp, after which, having been legalized in Artsakh as legal, it goes to Armenia, where you don’t have to pay taxes, and the difference there is almost threefold.
For example, in Artsakh there is no VAT, and this is one of the main taxes in most countries of the world. And that’s all, these goods can then be sold to Armenia, or exported as Armenian. Very good.
A clan has formed that makes money from this, and which is not interested in the inclusion of Karabakh into Armenia, because otherwise Armenian laws, Armenian rules will come there and this luxurious feeding trough will be closed. And it is quite strong, this clan, it has powerful influence, in the media - with whom it is necessary, it knows with whom and how to negotiate. And that’s why he blocks any initiatives,” Zapolskis said.
