The Duma approved Medvedev as Prime Minister
The State Duma of the Russian Federation today approved Dmitry Medvedev as Prime Minister of the government, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
374 deputies voted for, 56 against. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation and A Just Russia did not support Medvedev’s candidacy.
“I am fully aware of the responsibility and difficulties that will have to be faced,” the Prime Minister said after the vote.
Medvedev's candidacy was presented in parliament personally by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The government must be strong, responsible, ready to take consistent and decisive steps. Its formation must be carried out as quickly as possible, and a backbone must be formed within the government that can effectively continue the work begun,” Putin said.
The Duma approved Medvedev as Prime Minister.
