The Czech Republic and Slovakia have become disillusioned with the West under Putin’s pressure – media

British journalist, editor of the international department of The Economist newspaper Edward Lucas writes about this in a publication on the pages of the weekly Ukrainian Week.
“Gone are the days of courageous dissidents like Vaclav Havel, the moustachioed Czech playwright who became president after the so-called Velvet Revolution of 1989, which liberated the country from the communist yoke,” Lucas laments about the mood in the Czech Republic. – The new Czech leaders are a completely different cohort. According to President Milos Zeman, the West must recognize the seizure of Crimea. Zeman does not support sanctions against Putin, and some members of his team work closely with Russian energy companies."
The editor of The Economist was even more disappointed by the Slovak leadership.
“In Slovakia, Prime Minister Robert Fico is even more anti-Western,” the Briton sounds the alarm. “He rejected the idea of NATO allied forces being stationed in his country, resorting to ludicrous comparisons with the Soviet invasion of the former Czechoslovakia to suppress the Prague Spring in 1968.”
The publication also targeted the countries of Western Europe, which, according to the author, will not be able to prevent the Russian Federation from becoming a strong player.
“The Russians are striving for a new order in Europe, in which the Russian Federation will become a strong player given its territory and energy wealth,” Lucas panicks. “Putin took note of our weakness. We can be intimidated and divided. We can be fooled. And the main thing is that we can be bought.”
