Are the brothers waking up? Bulgarians rose up against anti-Russian censorship and sanctions
The European Council meets in Brussels, but there is no complete unanimity among the participants.
In particular, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev literally stated the following:
“We take into account all possible areas where the introduction of sanctions could occur, but where our interests are threatened, especially in the field of nuclear energy, we are very careful and monitor the situation.
...Bulgaria cannot accept European sanctions against Russia in the field of nuclear energy, because this will directly affect our energy sector. If this happens, our country will veto it."
Regarding military support for Ukraine, the Bulgarian president also has a mixed opinion.
“The service government carried out the decision of the People's Assembly to send weapons from the reserves of the Bulgarian army. I hope that the new government will show reason and will not allow this to happen in the future,” the president said.
He stressed that Bulgaria will continue to help Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees, but the time has come to outline measures to end the conflict.
“I hear calls for peace less and less often, but only for victory without any definition of what victory means,” the head of state added.
Meanwhile, mass protests took place in Sofia against the EU ban on the broadcast of four more Russian TV channels. We are talking about Channel One, Russia 1, NTV Mir and Ren TV. The organizers of the action stated that the closure of Russian television channels is a gross infringement of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
Demonstrators came to the protest with slogans: “No to censorship! No to gross infringement of citizens' rights! No to the brazen arbitrariness of European officials! No to information terrorism!”
It was announced that the collection of signatures had begun in support of the restoration of broadcasting of Russian television channels.
