The "Unity Day" declared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a trolling of the West, but it carries a grave danger for the "independent" country.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this during a press conference in Kiev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It would be correct to call this day the Day of Unity against Disinformation. Because the wave was building up in the west, and the Ukrainian government and Russia said in unison that there would be no invasion.
This played into the ratings and allowed the authorities to lead the liberation. It was also an element of light trolling of Western partners - while you threaten to attack, we are celebrating here,” he said.
Ruslan Bortnyk emphasized that Unity Day can also pose a huge danger for Ukraine.
“But at the same time there is a huge danger. Because society thought it was all over. There is no or minimal risk of a full-fledged military invasion, but the risk of escalation in Donbass has increased.
While we were waiting for the invasion of Kyiv, and the State Duma was deciding to recognize the LDPR, Russia declared genocide in the Donbass, troops continued to accumulate on both sides. While we were “fighting the invasion,” there was an escalation in the Donbass.
