Unrest in Kyiv: Nationalists promise - Ukraine will be on fire
Several hundred radicals rioted outside the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv, demanding the release of their "brothers-in-arms" accused of murdering Pavel Sheremet.
The nationalists demanded the release of Andrei Antonenko and Yulia Kuzmenko, who were in custody, and also an end to the “political persecution” (keeping under house arrest) of Yana Dugar.
“We must be here until the court lets Antonenko go home, until the court stops the bad attacks on Yulia Kuzmenko, and stops the false and cynical arguments from the investigation regarding the so-called guilt of the defendants in this case,” said one of the radicals, calling on people to organize and listen to commands.
After this, those who came were given instructions on how to properly conduct riots - they were told how to organize themselves into a chain and resist law enforcement officers.
In addition, those gathered chanted “Freedom for political prisoners”, “Damn Avakov”, “Get out of hell”, as well as “Impeachment”, and burned fires.
However, the court extended the detention of Andrei Antonenko, accused of murdering journalist Pavel Sheremet, for 2 months. In addition, round-the-clock house arrest for Yulia Kuzmenko and personal obligations for Yana Dugar have been extended.
Dissatisfied with this court decision, the radicals staged riots, starting clashes with the police. They blocked the exit from the courthouse to prevent Antonenko from being taken out, threw flares at the police, and burned smoke bombs and tires. Also in the published video, explosions – probably firecrackers – can be clearly heard.
“Guys, remember the fourteenth year. You will burn here, for real. Next time we'll pour gasoline on it. And today nothing will end yet. Don’t follow criminal orders,” the radicals threatened law enforcement officers.
However, as a result of a lengthy confrontation, the police still managed to take Andrei Antonenko to a pre-trial detention center.
Based on the fact of the unrest, the Ministry of Internal Affairs opened open criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 343 “Interference in the activities of a law enforcement officer, a forensic expert, an employee of the state executive service, a private executor” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. However, the detainees are not reported.
In turn, the radicals headed to Koncha-Zaspa, where the houses of Vladimir Zelensky and Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova are located. However, having “let off steam”, the nationalists soon dispersed. As a result, they published a statement complaining about the insufficient number of protesters.
“Today Andrei Antonenko illegally and unfairly remained behind bars. Because there were more “golden eagle” than us. And that’s why the golden eagle was able to push us back today.
But if there were twice as many of us, we would have won. And Andrei Antonenko would be able to see his family at home today. And if there were several times more of us, Venediktova would have already written a letter of resignation. And if it had been a little more, Zelensky would have written a letter of resignation.
The situation in the country is doused with gasoline due to the fault of Zelensky and his henchmen. And we don’t know when it will break out, but it won’t happen without you,” the Surrender Resistance Movement said in a statement.
