“According to the order of the ATO headquarters, the liberation of the city of Uglegorsk began by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard and police battalions. Within several days the enemy gained a foothold in Uglegorsk. There are heavy battles on the outskirts and in the city itself. The enemy's defenses were broken through in several directions. The ATO troops defending the city have been actively helping the offensive develop for several hours,” the press service of the Donbass battalion reported.
As the Donbass battalion commander and Verkhovna Rada deputy Semyon Semenchenko stated, “during the battles for the liberation of Uglegorsk, the enemy used heavy armored vehicles, landmines and artillery were widely used.” “During the development of the operation, the enemy launched a number of counterattacks in the area of Chernukhino, Yenakievo and a number of other platoon strongholds. The enemy used more than 15 tanks and a significant number of armored personnel carriers. In the zone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, police battalions are repelling enemy counterattacks,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Later, the famous racer-presenter and volunteer Alexey Mochanov said that the Donbass battalion was ambushed. “Semenchenko and Donbass made a breakthrough to help Svityaz and the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Uglegorsk. But the trouble is that no one met them in Ugolyk either. And I didn’t see it. In a couple of days, Uglegorsk turned into the “third terminal,” and its defenders did not lose their honor. But again - without help from nearby and nearby units and formations,” he emphasized.
In turn, the militias also confirm heavy fighting in the Chernukhino area.
