Loot defeated the Belarusian opposition
The traditional action of the Belarusian opposition “Chernobyl Way”, which was held for 30 years, was canceled by the organizers. They were unable to reach an agreement with the Minsk City Council not to pay for police services to guard the event.
The work of law enforcement officers was valued at 5737 Belarusian rubles or 176 thousand Russian rubles. These were the conditions for approving the action. The organizers of “Shlyakh” stated that they would not pay on principle, but many are sure that they do not have money, nor broad support.

“So, “Chernobyl Way” - Rest in Peace. I understand everything, the format is slowly becoming obsolete, but it seems like so many structures, environmental organizations and NGOs have spread everywhere, but they couldn’t find a couple of thousand rubles to pay for the services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (together with the opposition organizing committee),” wrote opposition journalist Eduard Palchis on Facebook .
He believes that the fate of the “Chernobyl Way” awaits other actions of the Belarusian opposition.
Recently, the Belarusian authorities have stopped arresting oppositionists, and have begun to fine them in a civilized manner. Thus, freelancers collaborating with the Belsat TV channel were fined 82 thousand dollars. And Brest blogger Sergei Petrukhin, who opposed the construction of a battery plant in the city, was fined almost 17 thousand Belarusian rubles.
Oppositionists note with bitterness that economic methods have proven to be more effective than repressive methods, and activity is falling.
