Avakov disowned plans for premiership under Tymoshenko-President
Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, on the program "Visiting Dmitry Gordon," answered a question about the possibility of his appointment as prime minister if Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko wins the presidential election, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Nonsense,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs, commenting on these rumors.
According to him, he will think about the future if the political landscape changes after the first or second round of the presidential elections.
“I don’t plan yet that under this president or that president I will be appointed minister or prime minister. Hear me: this does not depend on presidents; ministers are appointed by parliament. And we have parliamentary elections in late autumn. When the parliament is elected, there will be a new coalition, then it will be possible to talk about the composition of the government,” Avakov noted.
When asked whether Tymoshenko promised him the post of prime minister, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs replied that he did not discuss such things with anyone.
“Even if they want to offer this. Be it Petro Alekseevich [Poroshenko], or Yulia Vladimirovna,” the minister emphasized.
At the same time, political circles are confident in the existence of an unspoken pact between Avakov and Tymoshenko on the latter’s support in the elections. Avakov has held the post of Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine since February 2014. He managed to retain his position after the resignation of Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the appointment of Vladimir Groysman to this position.
