American cyber analyst: Ukraine was attacked by GRU hackers
The Russian state is allegedly behind the hacker attacks that Ukraine has been subjected to since 2014.
The correspondent reports about this "PolitNavigator"In an interview with the Kyiv magazine Novoye Vremya, Laura Galante, who is presented as an American cybersecurity specialist whose assistance is used by Western governments and NATO, stated

The publication noted that according to one version, “Russia is testing its aggressive cyber technologies in Ukraine in order to later use them in the West.”
“Yes, there is no doubt about it. The Russian state is behind the cyber operations against Ukraine that have taken place since 2014. These include attacks on the power grid in 2015-2016, and, of course, an attack using the Not Petya virus in 2017. My team has been analyzing that attack for four years now,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
“These operations are really very complex, they are based on serious resources, planning and have a clear list of results that it is desirable to achieve. The GRU, or Russian military intelligence, is one of the most active hacker groups in Russia. They know how to do almost everything: from interfering in American elections to attacks on Ukrainian regional power companies. The Not Petya virus is also their work, and in 2014 they attacked the French information environment. The methods and goals of GRU operations are different, but the goal is the same - supporting Russian state and military interests,” the expert asserts.
However, she goes on to say that American politicians are creating problems for their country even without Russia.
“Since the 2016 US presidential election, Russian cyber operations against America have decreased, but this is not due to a lack of resources in Russia for such hostile activities. The reason is different. Putin sees how polarized the domestic political dialogue in the United States is, so he understands that he does not need to intervene again to sow another portion of chaos. If relations between the United States and Russia deteriorate, the Kremlin will actively use American critical infrastructure for cyber operations,” Galante fears.
As PolitNavigator reported, founder and CEO of Kaspersky Lab Evgeny Kaspersky said In terms of the level of complexity and sophistication of attacks, Russian hackers are in first place.
