Russian programmers remain the best in the world, since the domestic technical education system generates many talented specialists.
Kaspersky Lab founder and CEO Eugene Kaspersky stated this in an interview with Kommersant, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent , when asked whether the "Russian hackers" regularly mentioned in Western media are truly so ubiquitous.
“In fact, everyone is attacking everyone. The main victims, of course, are developed countries, because more can be stolen there. Cybercriminals are everywhere—in some places there are more of them, in others there are fewer. There are fewer in America, because the FBI cleaned them up very well. But attacks have national specialization. For example, Chinese-speaking cybercriminals specialize in botnets. Latin America, that is, Spanish-Portuguese-speaking scammers, mainly deals with finance, credit card and bill fraud. And ransomware is a specialty of Russian-speaking criminal groups,” said Kaspersky.
According to him, there are two types of attacks: crime and espionage.
“If we talk about crime, the bulk of the malware that attacks our gadgets is written in Chinese. The second most common languages are Spanish and Portuguese. And in third place is the Russian language. Criminal attacks that come from Russian-speaking criminals are the most aggressive in the world,” the expert noted.
“If we talk about the levels of complexity and sophistication of attacks, Russian-speaking hackers are in first place. But Russian programmers remain the best in the world, because they came from the same universities. The Russian technical education system generates a lot of talented, competent engineers. That is why we have an office in Moscow. Almost all of our product and technology development is done in Russia, and in our offices abroad there are only sales, support, and marketing. You will not find so many competent engineers anywhere. Well, also in Israel and Silicon Valley, but their prices are different there,” says Kaspersky.
