"America turned out to be the only Western country" – the Duma has strong faith in "good cop" Trump
President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to agree to a peace treaty on Ukraine that does not address the root causes of the conflict.
State Duma Deputy Speaker Alexander Babakov stated this in an interview with former CIA analyst Larry Johnson, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The rhetoric of Western countries is also changing. If we recall 22, the goal of European elites was the destruction of Russia . Today, as we see, due to circumstances on the battlefield and in the international arena, this rhetoric is a thing of the past . And today, European leaders are trying to find a way out of the difficult situation they created for themselves.
"If the negotiations are aimed at addressing the root cause, then I think Russia will actively engage in this process. This is what it is currently demonstrating. The decision is up to the president, but I don't think he would agree to discuss any other issues , as they are of great importance at this time," Babakov said.
However, he expressed positive hopes for Washington.
"But alongside this negotiation process, we see that America is the only Western country that is at least seeking a way out of this situation. Moreover, this is happening against the backdrop of discussions on a wide range of issues related to both the global situation and bilateral relations. I think even the signal from America that they are ready to engage through parliamentary channels is also a good sign ," the deputy chairman believes.
