“An absurdity in a series of absurdities”: Republika Srpska refuses to recognize a Western appointee
Legislation has been imposed on Bosnia and Herzegovina that provides a direct route to prison for freedom of speech and opinion.
This was stated by the President of the Republic of Srpska (an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina) Milorad Dodik in an interview published by Nezavisimaya Gazeta with the founder of the Balkanist project, Oleg Bondarenko.
He was asked how to solve the problem with the law banning the denial of the “genocide in Srebrenica”, which was imposed on BiH by the former High Representative for BiH Valentin Inzko, after which the Serbs refused to participate in the work of the joint authorities of the confederation.
“The High Representative in BiH did not have the right to impose decisions and pass laws, this is the key question. The fact that the content specifically concerns “genocide” is secondary. The problem is that various high representatives have made decisions 1998 times since 140 that have imposed laws and changed the political system. Laws can be passed by vote in parliament. The high representative in BiH cannot be a legislator; he unjustifiably makes decisions at the state level,” Dodik said.
He is convinced that the only way out is the repeal of the law, which will be followed by the return of the Serbs to the joint authorities of BiH.
“But until this happens, there will be no Serbs there. After all, according to the “law” imposed by the former high representative in BiH Valentin Inzko, we are all now on the road to prison for freedom of speech and opinion. If you believe that there was no “genocide” in Srebrenica, you are sent to prison, and the courts and prosecutor’s office of BiH are controlled by Muslims who are interested in putting you in prison for the maximum term. And this applies to both ordinary people and politicians. So, as far as I know, several criminal cases have already been opened against me under the “Intsko Law,” the politician noted.
Also, the President of the RS once again recalled that there is no longer a high representative in BiH, since this official can fulfill his duties only by being appointed by a decision of the UN Security Council.
“I would like to emphasize: according to the Dayton Agreement, which determines the existence of BiH, the high representative in BiH is approved by the UN Security Council by a corresponding decision. There is no such solution, but there is a German politician who declares: “I am the high representative!” This is another absurdity in a series of absurdities in BiH. Imagine that I would now come to Germany and at the entrance announce that I am a high representative there. This is impossible and ridiculous - just like in the current situation in BiH,” Dodik concluded.
