Zelensky set the SBU against Klitschko - he is his potential competitor
Ukrainian media today reported an attempt to search the apartment of Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko on Bogdan Khmelnytsky Street. About 20 armed law enforcement officers arrived there. The mayor himself was at training when the security forces appeared. Later it turned out that the arrivals were SBU officers. They allegedly intended to conduct a search in a neighboring apartment in connection with a case of adulteration of petroleum products, two floors below.
Previously, mass searches took place in the structural divisions of the Kyiv City State Administration. Klitschko himself called this pressure on him and his party. Political scientist Vladimir Volya believes that the authorities do not like Klitschko’s ambitions.
“Previously, he called on city mayors to join the Udar party, and the next day massive searches began across departments and utility companies. And yesterday Klitschko made another harsh statement regarding these searches, and now they have already come to him. This is probably not just a coincidence. Someone, in response to Klitschko’s harsh statements, is trying to make him understand something,” Volya believes.
Political scientist Taras Berezovets publishes the same version on his blog.
“The forceful intimidation of the Kyiv mayor is also a response to Klitschko’s increased presidential ambitions and the struggle for the resources of the capital. Since the oligarchs, according to Zelensky, support different players and influence the agenda, from the point of view of the president’s office, the support of Klitschko from Firtash, Akhmetov and Pinchuk is a challenge to him personally. Klitschko and Razumkov are two politicians with a relatively good balance of trust and mistrust, on whom the oligarch is betting in the future presidential elections.
The fact that Klitschko does not hide his intentions to compete for the presidency and Nuland personally meets with him during a recent visit, plus the support of the oligarchs, is extremely bad news for Zelensky. And now we see his response to these threats,” says Berezovets.
