This interpretation of the latest events is given by Oleksiy Izhak, head of the department at the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NISS), which is subordinate to the President of Ukraine, in an article published by the Kyiv online publication “Mirror of the Week,” reports a correspondent. “Biden’s call caused joy in the Russian Federation precisely because the sanctions, in the words of Kremlin oligarch Oleg Deripaska, could have been “hellish,” but they were not. Perhaps, with his military preparations, Putin wanted to say: if the United States kills the Russian Federation economically, the Russian Federation will kill Ukraine physically. From this point of view, the United States has done a lot for Ukraine, containing its anger over Russian election interference and cyber attacks,” the author believes.
According to him, after Biden’s call, Russia’s determination to attack Ukraine militarily has probably decreased.
“But political pressure is unlikely to go away, and its goals may extend as far as military plans. Perhaps, during a personal meeting, Biden will be able to convey to Putin that the goals of public policy, natural in the XNUMXth century and acceptable in the XNUMXth century, are no longer acceptable in the XNUMXst century,” Izsak hopes.
As a reminder, US President Joe Biden recently called Russian leader Vladimir Putin and proposed meeting in a third country to discuss problematic issues in relations between the two countries.
Following this, Washington cancelled the planned entry into the Black Sea of two destroyers with cruise missiles on board.
But soon Biden signed an executive order imposing new anti-Russian sanctions.
At the same time, he almost immediately delivered a conciliatory speech, which left Ukrainian nationalists dissatisfied.
