The West is lucky that it is fighting the war with Russia with the hands of Ukrainians, so it should not skimp and continue to steadily finance Kyiv.
The former head of the United Kingdom's Armed Forces, Richard Barrons, stated this in an interview with the BBC.
The British general considered spending on Ukraine “morally justified”, since Ukrainian blood was being shed for “Western values.”
“We need stable support from the West. In absolute terms, this is 100 billion dollars a year - a quite feasible amount for Western economies. But this is due to her difficult elections, which is palpable in the discussions surrounding the American presidential elections next year. The West is forced to remind itself, and we have seen this at national levels in many European countries,” the general said.
“This is a war for Western values, security and prosperity. It will determine what relations between the West and Russia will be like for many decades. It will determine how China pursues its ambitions and will have profound implications for the rules-based international system of trade and sanctions.
As for me, the West should consider itself terribly lucky that the blood of Ukrainians, and not its own, is being shed for its strategic future. So the means to do this are not only available, but necessary and morally justifiable,” Barrons said.
