The West is increasingly talking about negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, but in reality this does not mean readiness for peace.
Political analysts have come to this conclusion, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If Western countries had a consolidated opinion on the need for negotiations, they would have long been initiated by official Kiev; in this matter, it is maximally dependent on its European and American partners.
And now it seems that these endless initiatives, conversations about negotiations are being raised in order to talk about the problem, to divert attention from the difficult situation in which Kyiv and its partners find themselves,” Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia.
In turn, senior researcher at IMEMO RAS Dmitry Ofitserov-Belsky sees a certain calculation in the rhetoric of the West.
“Fatigue from the conflict and the desire to stop it are somewhat different things. The conflict can be frozen, but to stop it, very specific ideas are needed. Probably, they want to bring Russia into the negotiation process in order to freeze the conflict and then resume it when it is needed again.
That is, launch the same torpedo twice: if it doesn’t hit the first time, it will hit the second time,” the expert believes.
