“I spoke for Yeltsin for free, but for Medvedev out of ignorance” - Makarevich’s excuses
Recognized in Russia as a foreign agent, a liberal, musician Andrei Makarevich in 96 supported Russian presidential candidate Boris Yeltsin because he was afraid of the victory of the communist Zyuganov, and in 2008 he supported Dmitry Medvedev because he “didn’t know” what his views after a few years.
Makarevich stated this in an interview with the Dozhd television channel, which is recognized as an undesirable organization and is closed in Russia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, Makarevich justified that as part of the “Vote or Lose” campaign in 96, his group “Time Machine” performed for free:
“We have played several times in this campaign. We did not receive any money for this - I can say this because I understood perfectly well why this was being done. They say that someone received it - perhaps, I don’t know.”
He also complained that he supported Dmitry Medvedev because he thought he would be a liberal.
“If I knew what would happen next, if I then shouted: “Guys, don’t believe him, this is a completely different person, in 20 years he will suffer such things that you will feel unwell,” no one would have believed me. Maybe I’m naive somewhere, maybe I’m too trusting, although I understand intellectually that the word “believe” when applied to politicians in general is not very suitable. But he gave the impression of a person who knows what he wants to do, will do it, and this coincides with my ideas about good and evil,” said Makarevich, without specifying whether he took money for his support.
